This course is recommended as the preparation for RNs seeking to practice as Faith Community Nurses (FCNs). It is based on the newly revised curriculum developed through the Westberg Institute for Faith Community Nursing which is owned by the Spiritual Care Association of New York, NY. 

Fall 2026 Dates

Sundays-10/4, 10/18, 11/1, 11/15   |   1:30-6:00 (Central)

Friday 10/23 and Monday 11/9    |    9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (Central)

(Must attend all 6 days)

We’ve enhanced our course to include added content on Trauma-Informed Care and Opioid Misuse.

Faith Community Nurses are actively licensed RNs who focus on whole-person health, health promotion and the intentional care of the spirit.

Course content: Beginning Your Ministry; Prayer; Spiritual Care; Health Promotion; Legal and Ethical Issues; Documentation; Grief and Loss; Behavioral Health; Assessment; Transitional Care, Trauma,

Substance Abuse and others.

Course Methods:  Advanced degree faculty includes FCNs who share real-life situations.  Interaction and sharing by students is encouraged. Our student evaluation ratings average in the 95 percentile for both content and instructor quality!

Contact hours: 36.5 contact hours for RNs. This course is jointly provided by FCNN and the Spiritual Care Association Nursing Division. The Spiritual Care Association Nursing Division is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. ANCC Provider Unit # P0623.

Cost and Fees

Fee: $435  (Plus the cost of the participant manual.)

Fee Includes:

  • 6 Zoom Class Sessions
  • We provide the 2025 Scope and Standards of Faith Community Nursing to students.
  • Fee includes a virtual mentoring session.
  • And other learning activities

Limited need-based scholarships available. Must submit Scholarship Application prior to registration.

We reserve the right to cancel the course if registrations are below our minimum. Full refund in that case.

Required Disclosure to Learners

Title of Activity: Foundations of Faith Community Nursing Course

Dates: October 4,18, 23 and November 1,9,15, 2026.

Outcome:

90% of participants will indicate on a written evaluation form that they learned something new as a result of attending the Foundations Course.

Criteria for successful completion to earn 36.5 contact hours:

Attendance for a specified period of time (student will miss no more than 15 minutes of each module unless the module is “made-up” by the student.)  In order to “make-up” the time missed, student will schedule an equivalent time to meet with the faculty to review the content of the material missed by their absence.

Completion/submission of evaluation form within 48 hours of end of course.
